Cal­lig­ra­phy — the art of beau­ti­ful writ­ing is a reward­ing prac­tice that helps us get into a mind­ful state and remain com­plete­ly focused whilst cre­at­ing some­thing beau­ti­ful. Come and explore the fas­ci­nat­ing world of Cop­per­plate Cal­lig­ra­phy with Sai, an expe­ri­enced Cal­lig­ra­ph­er and teach­ing artist, who will guide you through this work­shop. Sai is pas­sion­ate about shar­ing the beau­ti­ful art of Cal­lig­ra­phy, not just for its aes­thet­ic val­ue, but because of its unique abil­i­ty to help us remain com­plete­ly focused and get into a mind­ful state of flow very quickly.

In this Intro­duc­to­ry work­shop you will learn the basics of Cop­per­plate Cal­lig­ra­phy using a tra­di­tion­al dip pen and ink. Cop­per­plate is a tra­di­tion­al script that is very struc­tured and requires us to fol­low a few sim­ple rules. Although it’s based on rules and guide­lines, once you mas­ter the basic Cop­per­plate script, you can add lots of flour­ish­es, vari­a­tions and ele­gant details. Cop­per­plate will give you a sol­id foun­da­tion in all forms of point­ed pen Calligraphy.

What to expect?

• We will cov­er the basics of Cop­per­plate Cal­lig­ra­phy and focus on cre­at­ing beau­ti­ful thick and thin strokes using your dip pen and ink.
• Once you become famil­iar with the pen strokes through prac­tice drills, you will learn how to cre­ate let­ter­forms (upper­case and low­er­case) step by step.
• We will explore dif­fer­ent nibs, inks, papers and oth­er essen­tial tools for Cop­per­plate Calligraphy.
• You will also be taught some inter­est­ing tips and hacks that will help you to progress with your Cal­lig­ra­phy practice.
• There will be plen­ty of oppor­tu­ni­ty to prac­tice and for troubleshooting.

This work­shop is suit­able for com­plete begin­ners. No pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence required.
