Come and explore the fascinating world of Copperplate Calligraphy with Sai, an experienced Calligrapher and teaching artist, who will guide you through this workshop. Sai is passionate about sharing the beautiful art of Calligraphy, not just for its aesthetic value, but because of its unique ability to help us remain completely focused and get into a mindful state of flow very quickly.
In this Introductory workshop you will learn the basics of Copperplate Calligraphy using a traditional dip pen and ink. Copperplate is a traditional script that is very structured and requires us to follow a few simple rules. Although it’s based on rules and guidelines, once you master the basic Copperplate script, you can add lots of flourishes, variations and elegant details. Copperplate will give you a solid foundation in all forms of pointed pen Calligraphy.
What to expect?
- We will cover the basics of Copperplate Calligraphy and focus on creating beautiful thick and thin strokes using your dip pen and ink.
- Once you become familiar with the pen strokes through practice drills, you will learn how to create letterforms (uppercase and lowercase) step by step.
- We will explore different nibs, inks, papers and other essential tools for Copperplate Calligraphy.
- You will also be taught some interesting tips and hacks that will help you to progress with your Calligraphy practice.
- There will be plenty of opportunity to practice and for troubleshooting.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. No previous experience required. If you always wanted to try calligraphy or you simply want to write beautifully, this workshop will help you to learn an amazing life skill that is bound to spark your creativity and bring you joy.
